Teen Readers: the Kinderhook Library is seeking volunteers to curate new book lists!
Volunteers may earn 3 - 6 hours of community service per approved list.
Requirements:
- Each list should include 8-12 books covering similar themes, genres, tropes, or subjects. Books can be nonfiction, fiction, or both.
- Include a 50-100 word introduction of the book (written by the volunteer - no plagiarism or AI slop in this house!)
- All books should be available to borrow through the Mid-Hudson Library System. If this is a new book not in our system, check with Emily; we may be able to purchase it for the Library!
- Books which are part of a series may only be referenced once per list, either by including the first book or referencing the series as a whole.
- Volunteers may be asked to make edits or additions to the lists before community service hours are approved.
Community Service Hours:
Volunteer hours are awarded based on the number of words written for the completed list. For example: 8 books included with 50 words per summary = 400 words (3 hours of community service).
These hours are meant to include the time spent selecting the books to include, writing the summaries, checking the Mid-Hudson Library System catalog, and working with the Library on edits before approval.
Please see the chart for a breakdown of hour volunteer hours will be awarded per list.
