The Fault In Our Stars is a highly acclaimed novel, and it deserves its praise. John Green wrote an excellent novel that has quickly become a classic of literature. When I saw this book on the library shelves, I knew I had to give it a fair try. After reading it, it was a little less than what I expected, I'll admit, but it was still a great book. The novel does a great job at making the reader feel deep emotion and connections towards the characters. The novel has very uplifting moments that filled me with joy during my time with it.

The novel follows the life of Hazel, who is diagnosed with thyroid cancer that has spread to her lungs. Hazel is worried about finding friends, because she is worried about her eventual death. At a cancer patient support group, this is exactly what she does. She meets and befriends Augustus, who has osteosarcoma and has lost his leg. Gus attends the group meetings to support his friend, but ends up befriending and falling in love with Hazel. The two bond over books, especially one that Hazel introduces to Gus. Together, the two begin to enjoy their transient lives to the fullest.

The book has its highs, but its lows hit hard. The twists, the winding plot, and everything else about this book is full of emotion to the point where it's believable that Green cried onto the pages while writing. (Not in a weird way, that was meant to sound profound.) The novel's structure upon its characters' ideologies is incredible, as each character seems to provide insight or inspiration to Hazel and Gus. The way characters talk to and interact with the protagonists is incredibly well detailed.

The novel is great, and the only reason I'm not giving it a higher score is due to my personal preference. The drama and the sad parts of the plot aren't really my cup of tea, but if this sounds like a good time to you, then definitely give it a try.
