The Murder Game by Carrie Doyle
Genre: MysteryReviewed by Kara K., 12th Grade
Rating: 8/10
Luke Chase, a student at St. Benedict's boarding school, and known for his model behavior, finds himself wound up in a murder mystery after sneaking out with his roommate, Oscar, to meet with a pair of girls in the woods. The plan was simple, have a nice night and then sneak back into the dorms without anyone ever being the wiser. Unfortunately for Luke, it doesn’t stay that simple for long.
When one of their teachers is found dead the next day, in the very woods Luke himself had been in the previous night, Luke quickly realizes what a dire situation he and his friends have found themselves in. With an ever growing list of suspects, Luke takes matters into his own hands. But will Luke find the killer, or will the killer find him? This book was a surprisingly enjoyable read for me. While I am a fan of mystery books, I was not expecting this book from the teen section to leave me feeling this satisfied. This story contains just the right amount of twists, without feeling like it’s dragging on for an unnecessarily long time. Another aspect of this story I enjoyed was the characterization, especially for characters like Luke, Oscar, and Pippa. Each character’s main personality traits remained consistent throughout the book, and all their interactions and behaviors fit in with what we are told about them at the start and what we learn about them as we read. I would definitely recommend this to any fans of murder mystery books.
